Oxford resources to enrich online teaching

A guiding principle for flexible, inclusive teaching is to make available an array of materials to enhance and enrich the online learning environment. Oxford is fortunate to have a wide range of collections in both physical and digital spaces, that can help add diversity to your teaching and to the learning experience for students.

Pedagogical guidance

You might want to think about ways in which to capitalise on existing digital resources to create engaging learning activities for use both in teaching settings and for students to work with before or after classes. Offering students an alternative to reading text in preparation for class can help them develop new analytical skills and can encourage them to work differently as a group.

The Bodleian Libraries have a new Keeping the University reading page with details of their digital offerings.

The Bodleian’s subject LibGuides are increasingly including a Covid-19 page with new links to digital resources relevant to each subject.

The Bodleian also has a Digital Collection.

The Ashmolean has over 103,500 object records online and the Eastern Art Online collection.

The Pitt Rivers Museum’s Collections Online provides photographs and other information of objects in their collection.

Cabinet makes items from the University Libraries and Museums’ collections digitally available.

Oxford has a series of podcasts in a wide range of subjects.

The Botanic Garden and Arboretum, Oxford University Herbaria, and the Department of Biology, are highlighting 400 plants of scientific and cultural significance at Oxford Plants 400.
