What is CMALT accreditation?

The CMALT (Certified Membership of the Association of Learning Technology) Accreditation Framework, managed by the Association for Learning Technology (ALT), provides a pathway to peer-assessed accreditation for learning technology professionals in the UK and internationally. ALT defines learning technology as the broad range of communication, information, and related technologies used to support learning, teaching, and assessment. The framework is designed for professionals who are actively involved in understanding, managing, researching, supporting, or enabling learning with the use of Learning Technology, and achieving CMALT is recognition from peers that you are a current practitioner.

CMALT accreditation offers a valuable opportunity to gain formal recognition for your expertise in learning technology. It supports ongoing professional development and provides a platform to share best practices with peers.

What is the CMALT Programme at Oxford?

The CMALT Programme at Oxford is a series of in-person workshops designed to help staff prepare their application to ALT for CMALT accreditation.

Upon a successful application to ALT, participants are awarded one of the following qualifications based on their roles and responsibilities:

  • Associate CMALT
  • CMALT
  • Senior CMALT.

Who can apply for the programme?

The programme is open to Oxford staff whose primary roles involve learning technology or digital education, including:

  • Learning technologists
  • Administrators
  • IT support staff
  • Librarians
  • Academic staff
  • Research staff

There are no prerequisites for the successful applicants to join the programme. However, all applications are reviewed by CTL, and places are offered to those whose roles and experience align with the aims of the programme. During the first workshop on Tuesday on 17 February 2026, participants will identify the CMALT pathway best suited to their professional background and goals.  During the first workshop, participants will review the CMALT pathways: Associate, CMALT and Senior CMALT, to determine which route best aligns with their professional experience and aspirations.
