One way in which we aim to create conditions throughout Oxford where excellence in teaching and assessment can thrive is by bringing educators and professional services staff together through our facilitated education communities.
One of these is the Inclusive Teaching Special Interest Group. Find out about our other education communities.
What is the Inclusive Teaching Special Interest Group?
This group brings together staff from across the collegiate University who wish to discuss inclusive teaching practice at Oxford, often with a particular focus on ways to effectively meet the institutional anticipatory duty towards disabled students under the Equality Act.
The group is facilitated by the Centre for Teaching and Learning and meets in-person, supported by a dedicated Teams channel. The group is open to all academic and professional services staff at Oxford with an interest and/or remit in practising, developing or supporting inclusive teaching.
Sessions on topics relevant to the group are in-person, drawing on contributions from group members and invited guests. The group provides opportunities to network, share practices and experiences, and engage with Oxford University inclusive teaching initiatives at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our Teams channel is for discussion and information-sharing between sessions, for session sign-ups and reminders, as well as being a repository of resources.
Past topics have included: implementing reasonable adjustments and the anticipatory duty, inclusive assessment design, mental health and wellbeing, neurodiversity, inclusive support for international students, and achieving equity for all PGT students.
How can I join?
You can join the group via Teams. To join the Team, make sure you are logged into MS Teams, then click on this link. This will join you to the Education Community Team automatically and you will then be able to view the Inclusive Teaching Special Interest Group channel. If you don’t have a SSO (Single Sign-On) account or have difficulty joining, please contact us.
For more information about managing notifications in Teams, see the bottom of the page.
When is the next session?
Sessions are held mostly in-person and occasionally online, as below.
Booking links and reminders for the sessions will be posted in the Inclusive Teaching Special Interest Group channel in our Education Community Team.

How can I manage my notifications for the Education Community Team?
If you change nothing about your Teams notifications, you will receive both desktop notifications and activity feed alerts for @mentions, direct messages (chat), and all new conversations and @mentions in all channels within the Education Community Team, not just those for the Inclusive Teaching Special Interest Group channel.
If you would like to turn off notifications from any channel in the Education Community Team (ie for those groups you do not wish to follow), here is how to customise notifications in a Teams channel.
More details of how to change notifications can be found at Learn how to choose the right settings to fit your preferences.
If you have any queries, please contact us.
