Role Profile Tool
This Role Profile Tool is part of the Academic Skills Provision Toolkit.
It is one of three tools in the toolkit and can be used alongside the Mapping Tool and Reviewing Tool.
The tool provides a structured 3-step review process to identify, reflect on and enhance the activities and roles associated with academic skills provision within colleges (see Figure 1 below).
Based upon evidence gathered through the Centre for Teaching and Learning's consultancies with colleges in 2023-24 and 2024-25, it is primarily focused on undergraduate provision that is in addition to the academic skills support provided by subject tutors in college.
The tool aids colleges in their considerations of who is responsible for the range of activities associated with academic skills development beyond the work of college subject tutors.
It also supports colleges to consider the professional needs of colleagues who contribute to their academic skills provision.

- The Role Profile Tool may be most insightful if used by the senior academic leadership team within your college, and the activities could be led by the Senior Tutor or the academic skills lead
- The three steps should take approximately 35 minutes to complete
- The tool involves sorting and connecting activities and responsibilities associated with academic skills development with the typical roles associated with academic skills provision in colleges
