Mapping Tool Step 2: Produce

 

It is recommended that you use a large piece of paper (at least A3 in size) with post-it notes to create your map.

As you create your map, you may wish to reflect on a student trying to access academic skills support in college and how they would go about it.

Begin by positioning students at the centre of your map and then transpose the information from your completed Table 1: Typical areas of academic skills provision from Step 1 onto your map to create the overview of your academic skills provision. There is an example of a map in Appendix 1: A step-by-step example.

Consider the structure of your provision, taking into account different types of support.

Once this is completed, consider the links between the different parts of your provision, drawing in connecting lines to identify processes and systems.

Alternatively, create a digital copy of your map using PowerPoint.
