You are invited to a Showcase of Digital Reading Innovation, hosted by the Reading and Writing Innovation Lab (Centre for Teaching and Learning) and the Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub (Jesus College).
Come and learn about new hardware, software, and strategies to help you become a more productive academic reader.
You will get a chance to spend some hands on time with various technologies and attend talks on choosing hardware e-readers, selecting note-taking apps and building a digital academic reading toolkit.

What you can see
Since the introduction of the Kindle, there has been much innovation in devices and interfaces for digital reading.
This showcase of devices from the Reading and Writing Innovation Lab (Centre for Teaching and Learning) will give you an overview of what is happening in this space and give you a chance to get some hands-on time with:
- Different types of e-readers (including the reMarkable)
- Different tablet form factors (including iPad Pro and Kindle Fire)
- Apps for reading and managing digital reading
- Touch interfaces for annotation and note taking (including different types of styluses and digital pens)
- Digital highlighters and hand held scanners for reading printed materials
- Mac and Windows applications for reading and managing the reading workflow
Attendees will have chance to book one-on-one or small group consultations after the showcase for more in-depth exploration.

Talks you can attend
You can visit the showcase any time between 2.30pm and 5.30pm to browse the various devices, or you can schedule your visit to coincide with various short talks presenting different aspects of digital reading.

Academic reading in the digital age: How to choose the right tools and strategies
This one-hour seminar at the end of the day will discuss what are the consequences of using digital tools for reading. It will offer a framework of academic reading to make it easier to choose the appropriate tools and strategies. It will cover:
- What makes academic reading so different?
- Effective strategies for productive academic reading
- Choosing the right digital tools to support effective strategies
- Digital skills necessary to make the most out of digital reading
- Tools for going from reading to learning and writing
