Oxford Essentials is a half-day induction event held in September each year for newly appointed academic, teaching and research staff.
The next Oxford Essentials will be held online via MS Teams on Wednesday 22 September 2021.
What are the aims of the event?
The aims of the event are to:
welcome you formally to the University
introduce you to teaching at Oxford
introduce the workings of the University to those of you who are new to Oxford and/or to the UK, and to provide essential, need-to-know information.
The event includes a formal welcome to the University by the Vice-Chancellor, presentations about the University, and workshops about different aspects of teaching and learning at Oxford.
Asynchronous and live synchronous online presentations and workshops.
Live components will begin at 9.30am on Wednesday 22 September 2021. A full timetable will be released in early September.
9.30am Welcome from Dr Ruth Percy, Centre for Teaching and Learning
9.30am-10.30am Welcome address from Professor Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor, followed by a live Q&A session/asynchronous Q&A
10.35am-11.35am Tutorial teaching at Oxford: Discussion groups with experienced tutors, in divisional groups (Humanities, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences)
11.45am-12.30pm Research supervision at Oxford: Discussion groups with experienced tutors, in divisional groups (Humanities, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences)
Requirements for the course
Academic, teaching and research staff who are new to the University in the past year, or who will be starting in 2021/22 academic year.
