Teaching and Learning Showcase 2021

Save the date! Teaching and Learning Symposium, 9th week, HT23

Events to share teaching and learning across Oxford.

During 9th week of Trinity term, the Centre for Teaching and Learning is coordinating a series of in-person events to allow everyone involved in teaching students at Oxford to connect with peers and share examples of good practice in flexible and inclusive teaching across the collegiate University.

The centrepiece of the week is a day-long Teaching and Learning Symposium on Thursday 22 June at the Blavatnik School of Government, with pre-symposium events to take place from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 June.

One year on since the way we teach at Oxford changed dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the inaugural Teaching and Learning Showcase: Sharing what we’ve learned took place in Trinity term 2021.

A new biennial event for Oxford, the Showcase included six live online sessions held during 7th, 8th and 9th weeks, and was designed for teaching staff at any stage in their career at the University.

The event included the opportunity to hear from the winners of last year’s Vice-Chancellor’s Education Awards, and provided a platform for sharing examples of best practice in flexible and inclusive teaching from across the University over the past 12 months. It also considered what aspects of these practices we would like to build on moving forward.

Colleagues in teaching and learning support roles across the collegiate University attended and participated in each Showcase discussions, ensuring that as many perspectives as possible were represented.

Recordings and slide presentations from each session are now available on a Canvas site dedicated to the Showcase. If you haven't already, you are encouraged to register for the Teaching and Learning Showcase 2021 to access the site.

Dear colleagues

I invite you to this new biennial event celebrating teaching best practice at Oxford.

The inaugural Oxford Teaching and Learning Showcase 2021 will highlight the extraordinary lengths colleagues have gone to over the last 12 months to continue providing high quality education across the University.

Through a series of online events between 7th and 9th week of Trinity term, it will give colleagues an opportunity to share examples of best practice in flexible and inclusive teaching, and consider what education might look like at Oxford in the future.

As we near the end of an exceptionally demanding academic year, I hope these events will give us a chance to celebrate what has been achieved, and to reflect on some of the positives that have emerged from this difficult and exhausting period.

The series starts with an opening event on 8 June where myself and Vice-Chancellor Professor Louise Richardson will be among the speakers. Five further events will then take place over the following two-week period, each lasting 60 to 90 minutes and including a mix of interactive short presentations and panel discussions.

I would encourage all colleagues in teaching and learning support roles to the collegiate University to attend and participate in these discussions, so that as many perspectives as possible may be represented.

To sign up for the event, please visit the registration page.

Best wishes
Professor Martin Williams, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Education
